Paolo Pellegrin est né en 1964 à Rome. Il a étudié l’architecture à l’università la Sapienza, à Rome, en Italie, avant d’étudier la photographie à l’Istituto Italiano di Fotografia, à Rome. Entre 1991 et 2001, Pellegrin a été représentée par l’Agence VU à Paris. En 2001, il est devenu candidat à Magnum Photos et membre à part entière en 2005. Il a été photographe contractuel pour Newsweek pendant dix ans. Pellegrin est lauréat de plusieurs récompenses, parmi lesquelles figurent dix prix de la World Press Photo et de nombreux prix de photographe de l’année, une médaille d’excellence Leica, un prix Olivier Rebbot, le Hansel-Meith Preis et le prix de la médaille d’or Robert Capa. En 2006, il a été affecté à la Subvention W. Eugene Smith en photographie humaniste. Il habite à Londres.
